  3. Prepare to transport explosives

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

store, handle and transport explosives on at least two occasions, including:

planning and preparing to handle and transport explosives

organising and preparing vehicle to transport explosives

receiving and despatching explosives

segregating explosives and accessories

maintaining stock records and reporting discrepancies

storing, handling and transporting explosives

accessing and managing explosives storage

displaying required signage

maintaining magazine.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply relevant documentation and procedures and confirm work activity is compliant.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key legislation required to store, handle and transport explosives, including those relating to:

dangerous goods requirements

storage and segregation of explosives

records and reporting requirements

key procedures and documentation required to store, handle and transport explosives, including:

site security plan

work health and safety requirements and procedures

emergency procedures

site operational procedures and checks

manufacturer specifications

Australian standards and codes of practice relating to storage, classification, handling and transport of explosives

Australian Explosives Code

types, characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations of explosives, accessories and relevant equipment

principles and techniques for identifying and responding to relevant hazards and emergencies

basic techniques for communicating job activities with others.
